Description

Position Summary: The conservation agronomist is responsible for assisting the precision soils specialist, managing Nexus carbon program, and working with growers to adopt new on-farm conservation practices as well as facilitating and helping to fulfill EQIP funding and other grants.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Report for work as scheduled.
  • Know and follow all company safety policies and procedures. Perform work in a safe manner.
  • Provide technical assistance and sales support to farmers transitioning to climate-smart agricultural practices (E.g., cover crops, reduced tillage, precision nutrient management, and other regenerative farming practices) by providing technical and agronomic expertise.
  • Provide farmers with education about the availability of public and private conservation funding programs.
  • Develop and deploy targeted outreach and marketing efforts to encourage climate-smart practice adoption
  • Plan and execute educational opportunities, like field days and workshops, highlighting climate-smart practices and considerations. Collaborate with Truterra’s Peer Network
  • Coordinator to develop peer networks to facilitate farmer-to-farmer learning opportunities.
  • Train ag retailer staff on climate-smart practice opportunities and revenue streams
  • Become a TSP/Tech Service provider and maintain a CCA license.
  • Stay abreast on carbon and develop Nexus “go to” plan for it.
  • Work on conservation agronomy grants applicable to Nexus
  • Interpret soil tests & develop N, P & K recommendations for Nexus and in turn for each customer and, in turn, timely processing of results and follow up recommendations
  • Work with agronomist and growers on nutrient management plans as needed and annual updates as required by each state
  • Soil sample fields for Nexus & grow the soil sampling business for Nexus
  • Make soil sampling book only as needed – primarily share electronically
  • Import soil test data into EFC & required into SMS and/or other platforms as needed
  • Data management – be able to import planting, imagery, harvest data into digital platforms
  • Provides timely feedback to manager

  • Represent yourself and Nexus professionally at all times in action and appearance – positively enriching the culture of Nexus.
  • Work in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Follow up to ensure that work has been completed as approved.
  • Attend safety and related job trainings as they become available.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

  • Ability to make independent judgments, which have moderate impacts on the organization.
  • Good organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Requires physical strength and dexterity to walk, stand, bend, climb, reach, stoop, twist and lift/carry 50 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to use a soil probe and penetrate the soil to the proper depth to obtain a good soil sample
  • Vision, hearing and speech essential.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Hand coordination to use computer.
  • May require a valid driver’s license. While traveling may have contact with hazardous materials and drive/travel and work in adverse weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear and use hands.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
